Is anyone in San Diego going to the multi guild workshop in ventura? I don't have a car and the price of amtrack is prohibitive. if any one is going up, I'll help with gas if I can bum a ride!
I'd really love to go.

So I'm Jonesin' for a faire experience, as so cal is just too hot in summer, and they're are only faires in spring and fall. I look up the small, not terribly great, balboa park fair, a one weekend fair at the beggining of august, and this is what I find:
Greetings, Dear Faire Enthusiasts, Participants and all of our Merry Friends, On May 7, 2008, the Board of Directors held a meeting to address growing concerns over the economy and dwindling sponsorship offers within the San Diego Arts Community. We discussed the price of gas, and the impact it is having on other, similar, one weekend event venues, as well as steeply rising fees imposed by the city and the public parks. At that time we voted 4-0 to postpone the Renaissance Faire event for the 2008 season. Please be reassured that this does this imply we are closing our doors forever, it simply means we are taking a season off to reassess business operations, special event fee pricing structures for non-profits, financing, and sponsorships. As a 501(c)3 charitable organization that does not pay its directors or Board Members for their volunteer hours, it is our continual aim to always keep costs low while continuing to improve the educational and entertainment value of this event. We look forward to serving you all in the 2009 season. If you are a participant, by now you should have heard from your individual manager; whether it is operations, guilds, entertainment or merchants. I apologize if this news came to you in some other manner, but you know how hard it is to track people down in the off season! If you are a vendor please look to your vendor coordinator for information regarding cleaning deposit refunds and other miscellaneous information. Kindest regards, Jocelyn Livingston Plazewska
